Mules take non-conference battle from SIU-E

Kris Webber gave the Mules five solid innings on the mound
The No. 17 Central Missouri baseball Mules snagged an early 6-0 lead and held on for a 7-4 non-conference win over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Wednesday night at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (22-5) scored in the bottom of the first and rallied for five in the third frame, thanks to a grand slam by senior right fielder Blaine Rutledge. The Cougars (11-13) scored three in the sixth inning off reliever Tom Latimore but none were earned because of a Mule error.
UCM starter Kris Webber threw five shutout innings in his first start since February 11, coming back from an injury. He struck out three and allowed only three hits in the game.
Chris Matlock tossed 2.1 innings of relief before Alex Kent came on for the final frame to retire the side in order and get his third save of the season.
