The No. 13 Central Missouri Mules saw their season come to an end on Monday afternoon in the South Central Region Championship Game to the No. 17 Emporia State Hornets, 15-6 at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.

The Mules (44-15) gave up seven runs in the third inning, committing three errors. They allowed three more in the fifth, and four in the sixth. UCM allowed 18 ESU (46-13) hits and finished the game with five errors, making only six of the Hornet runs earned.

Brooks Martin got the start on only three days rest, and gave up six unearned runs in 2.1 innings. The only one of the six Mules pitchers that was effective was senior Chris Matlock, who tossed the final 2.2 scoreless innings, and gave up only one hit.

Central Missouri scored all six of its runs in the sixth inning, but it was 14-0 before that rally. Freshman Bret Schwartz led the attack, going 3-of-5 with a couple runs scored. The Mules had 11 hits in the game.

Schwartz, along with senior Will Feil and sophomore Jon Wegener earned All-South Central Regional All-Tournament Team. Matlock also made the team, going 2-0 and tossing 9.2 scoreless innings, giving up only four hits all weekend.
