Coach Myers on Brian McBryde: Brian had an outstanding fall both in the field and at the plate… we really like the way Brian took ownership of this club…his attitude and personality provide solid leadership…he earned the opportunity to be our opening day shortstop and hit at the top of the order.
As a Junior: McBryde was a second-team All-MIAA selection ...The Mules starting shortstop, started the season at 2B while recovering from off-season arm surgery... Had a 3-of-3 game against Fort Hays State (Apr 15)... hit the Tigers again in the MIAA Tournament, going 4-of-7 (May 11)... also had a 4-of-5 performance against Missouri Western (Apr 1), scoring four runs...hit .358 after the start of MIAA play.
As a Sophomore: The starting shortstop, he hit .400 through the start of April before a slump knocked his average down to .335 by early May... he rebounded to end the season on a nine-game hitting streak to finish at .343... went 3-for-5 with four RBI against Cal-State-Chico (Feb 11) and 3-for-4 with two runs scored against Winona State (Mar 5)... had 21 multiple hit games and his 178 assists ranks third all-time for a single season... he also moved into ninth in career triples with nine.
As a Freshman: He was named MIAA Freshman of the Year, consensus first-team All-MIAA, and second-team All-Region ... led the Mules in doubles (18), triples (seven), stolen bases (18) and stolen base attempts (21) ... he also was third on the team in hits (87) and batting average (.387), and fourth in runs scored (60) and slugging percentage (.618) ... he set the UCM and tied the MIAA record for triples in a game with three at Missouri-Rolla (May 4) ... also had a double in the game, going 4-for-4 with four runs batted in ... for the series he was 8-for-9 with eight RBI and four runs scored ... he had 24 multiple hit games, and at least one extra-base hit in 22 contests.
In High School: A three-year letterwinner at Humble High School, he earned all-district honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior ... capped his career by earning all-state honors in 2004 and was chosen for the Greater Houston All-Star Game and the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game.
Personal: Physical Education major ... born October 17, 1985 ... son of Darrell and Cathy McBryde.
