Matt Murray joins Central Missouri after one season at Kansas State and brings a variety of experience to the program. In addition to the infielders, he will also handle much of the recruiting for the Mules. He helped the Wildcats to a 34-24 mark last season as well.
Murray was the head coach at Claremore High School in Claremore, Okla. the previous five seasons. He piled up 151 wins and a .760 winning percentage while taking his squads to three state championship game appearances and two 5A state titles in 2003 and 2005. His 2005 team finished the season ranked No. 11 in the nation by USA today. In 2003, he garnered Coach of the Year honors from both the Tulsa World and Oklahoma Coaches Association.
33 of his former players have gone on to play collegiate baseball, and four have advanced to the professional ranks.
Murray also served as an assistant coach at Claremore from 1998 to 2001, but got his coaching start in 1994 as the Claremore American Legion Coach.
A graduate of NCAA Division II Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, he was a member of the 1996 conference title (OIC) squad. He played his high school ball at Claremore as well. He and his wife Jennifer, who is also a Claremore native, were married in 2004.
