Caldwell named D-II "Player of the Year", Holmes is D-II "Coach of the Year"

Bryanna Caldwell and Ron Holmes...honored by the NTCA
Caldwell is named the D-II "Player of the Year" for the fourth time, while Holmes is the D-II "Coach of the Year" for the fourth time.
Josie Earnest, Bryanna Caldwell, and Vicki Spratford headline the 2008 National Ten Pin Coaches Association team, while NCAA champion Maryland-Eastern Shore and Nebraska each placed a bowler on the first team.
Vanderbilt’s Earnest was voted the Division I “Player of the Year” after a stellar sophomore year. She led the Commodores to a semi-final finish in the NCAA Championship with a season average of 204.7 in 67 games. Consistency was her hallmark with four Top 5 finishes and 81% of her games over 200.
Caldwell is the Division II “Player of the Year, after she averaged 202 over 69 games and help lead the Jennies to the NCAA quarterfinals. With two tournament victories and seven top 10 finishes to her creditshe claimsher fourthPlayer of the Year honor.
Spratford was dominant in her final season winning 4 events and finishing in the top 10 twelve timesto cap back to back Division III Player of the Year awards. She averaged 205.3 for the gothic knights and anchored them to an NCAA semifinals birth.
Joining this threesome on the first team are Nebraska’s Cassie Leuthold and Kristina Frahm of Maryland-Eastern Shore, who was also named the Division I “Rookie of the Year”.
Leuthold, a sophomore from Nebraska,led the NCAA in average with a 205.7 for 57 games. She paced the Cornhuskers with two tournament titles and 5 top ten finishes. Kristina Frahm helped secure the first NCAA championship for UMES in her debut season averaging 201.0 over 71 games. She had one tournament victory and seven top tens.
Sharon Brummell of UMES was voted Division I “Coach of the Year” after guiding her team to its first national title while Central Missouri’s Ron Holmes was Division II’s top coach and Frank Parisi of New Jersey City won in Division III.
Kayla Stamm of Kutztown and Bethany Holden of Elmhurst were the Division II and Division III “Rookies of the Year”, respectively.
Nebraska also landed Lindsey Baker and Katie Ann Sopp on the second team along with Sarah Pelletier of Sacred Heart, Marissa Martinek of Arkansas State and Maria Rodriguez of UMES.
The third team included two Vanderbilt veterans in Tara Kane and Michelle Peloquin along with Erica Perez of Fairleigh Dickinson, Ashley Blakely of Jackson State and UMES’ Jessica Worsely, the MVP at the NCAA finals.
