Mules' Clint Steiner Named Second-Team Academic All-American

Warrensburg, Mo. (Dec. 5, 2000) -- Central Missouri State University defensive back Clint Steiner is a second-team selection on the Verizon College Division Academic All-America Football Team.

A senior from Stilwell, Kan., Steiner was a four-year starter for the Mules and led the team in tackles this season with 94. He also had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He was a first-team Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association all-conference selection this season and was also named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for Football. He is majoring in marketing with a 3.55 cumulative grade-point average.

Steiner was one of just three MIAA football players chosen to the first or second team. The other two were Pittsburg State University linebacker Chris Gab, a first-team choice, and PSU kicker Gary Kral, a second-team pick.

Steiner's selection marks the sixth time a Mules' football player has earned academic All-America honors and he is the 44th CMSU student-athlete to be named an academic All-American overall. This is the fifth consecutive year Central Missouri State has had at least one student-athlete receive academic All-America recognition.

The Academic All-America Program is sponsored by Verizon and team members are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
