Football Mules get seven on MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll

Seven Central Missouri State University Mules were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom recently, as they were named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for Football.

Named to the team were senior wide receiver Brandon Almaguer (physical education major from Hollister, Calif.), junior offensive lineman Ryan Barnes (education major from Raymore, Mo.), senior bandit Ariel Cowan (business administration major from Hacienda Heights, Calif.), senior strong safety Andy Hodges (junior graphic design technology major from Baytown, Texas), sophomore offensive lineman Jon Lindquist (business major from Jefferson City, Mo.), senior placekicker Brandon Starks (criminal justice major from Kansas City, Mo.), and junior linebacker Dan Stookey (graphic arts major from Columbia, Mo.).

Starks earned second-team All-MIAA honors after connecting on 14-of-17 field goal attempts and 47-of-49 extra points. Almaguer and Barnes saw limited action during the 2004 campaign in reserve roles and on special teams. Cowan finished the year with 22 tackles (two for losses) and a blocked kick, while Hodges tallied 11 stops on the year. Lindquist missed much of the year while battling the injury bug, but did see some action on the offensive line. Stookey was a reserve linebacker and special teams performer, and tallied four tackles this past season.

To be named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll teams, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better at the qualifying institution; must have at least two terms of attendance at the member school, excluding summer sessions; must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in athletic eligibility; and may not be inactive due to redshirt or hardship qualification.
