Grace wins
Markey Football Scholarship at
Captain
Cook, Hawaii native and Central Missouri State University senior football
player Darryl Grace was honored for his work in the classroom, in the
community, and on the football field recently, as he was awarded the 2004 E.A.
and Mary Jane Markey Scholarship. The
award was presented by the CMSU Foundation in honor of the late Central
Missouri alumnus and Warrensburg native Eph Mrkey and his late wife, Mary Jane
Irvine Markey, a CMSU alumna and native of Marshall, Mo.Grace, an aviation major at CMSU, earned All-America honors as
an offensive lineman in 2003. He was
starting at right tackle for the Mules until a knee injury in the second week
of the season put him on the sideline.
He also has been a key member of the Central Missouri State football
team off the field, as a member of the Central Missouri State Literacy Team,
which reads with area grade school students, and as a member of Mule Haul, a
program in which CMSU football players help fellow students move into the
residence halls at the start of the school year. Grace also has serves as a coach at the
annual Central Youth Football Clinic. He
was an a first-team All-MIAA and Academic All-MIAA selection as a junior in
2003.Eph Markey was a stand out football player and basketball player for the
University, and also competed on the track & field team. Following his graduation from

Jane Irvine Markey was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia,

Scholarship recipient must have a record of distinguished academic achievement
and have exemplified leadership, skill, dedication, and team contributions to
Mules football and
Grace was
awarded the scholarship at halftime of last Saturday's game vs. Southwest
Baptist. He was joined by his parents,
Darryl and Leona Grace; his grandmother, Joanna Gasper; and his sisters Lilinoi
and Nell Grace.
