Coach Fritz on Kendall Ricketts: “Kendall had as good a year as I
have been around as a safety in the running game- he is a tremendous
tackler and has worked hard to improve his cover skills, which are very
good as well.”
As a junior: Became the 12th first-team All-American in school history,
garnering honors from the AP... led the squad in tackles for the second
year in a row and grabbed first-team All-MIAA and all-region honors
for his efforts with 95 stops... was named the Football Gazette National
Player of the Week for his 19 tackle performance against No. 2
Northwest Missouri... was named MIAA Player of the Week two times
and the team’s defensive MVP three times during the season as well...
picked off a team-high three passes and returned one against Fort Hays
State 59 yards for a touchdown to tie the MIAA record for interception
returns for a touchdown at four... He also currently ranks 7th in school
history coming into the season with 266 tackles.
As a sophomore: First-team All-MIAA, second-team All-Region, and
honorable mention D2Football.com All-American... the Mules’ leading
tackler with 96 (60 solo), third-best in the MIAA, tops among league
defensive backs ... he also was the Mules’ leader with nine special teams
tackles ... he had a career-high 15 tackles at MO Western ... he added 11
tackles and two PBUs vs. Adams State ... had 12 stops at Southwest
Baptist ... he was the Mules Defensive MVP four times, won the Swarm
Award three times and earned Special Teams MVP honors once... broke
the UCM record with his third career interception return for a
touchdown against Pittsburg State.
As a freshman: Ricketts was an MIAA Freshman of the Year candidate
after he started 10 games at free safety for the Mules ... as it was, he
earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors ... he had a season-high 10
tackles against Northwest Missouri State, at Pittsburg State, and in the
season-finale vs. Emporia State ... against Southwest Baptist he had
three tackles, one for a loss, and a UCM record-tying three interceptions,
which he returned for 52 yards and a touchdown ... earned MIAA Player
of the Week honors for his effort ... he came back the next week with
seven tackles and an interception returned 33 yards for a TD ... on the
season he had 75 tackles (second-best on the team), 2.5 for losses, five
interceptions, one pass break-up, and two intercepton returns for
touchdowns, which tied the Mules season and career record ... he
redshirted in 2003.
In high school: Graduated from Raytown (Mo.) South High School
where he lettered for head coach David Allie ... recorded 162 tackles and
three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns ... was
named first-team Independence Examiner All-Suburban Blue
Conference and second-team All-Metro ... played for the Missouri team
in the Metro Challenge All-Star Football Game.
