Jennies drop exhibition opener
to Division I Creighton

Lindsey Maple led the Jennies with 14 points

 

The Central Missouri Jennies opened their 2007 season with an 88-48 exhibition loss to the Creighton Bluejays in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Jennies came out strong to start the game taking an early 8-5 lead, but after the fast start UCM struggled to find consistency on the offensive end. Creighton, paced by seven three pointers and seven different scorers went on a 25-3 run to take a 30-11 lead half way through the opening stanza.

Dominica Blakemore provided some much needed offense for the Jennies, scoring 11 in the opening stanza to lead all scorers. The Bluejays, however, continued their hot shooting and increased their lead to 49-26 at the break. Lindsey Maple added seven for UCM and Jojuana Jones chipped in five points and four rebounds for the Jennies who shot 35 percent from the field in the half. Creighton, on the other hand shot nearly 52 percent from the field including 50 percent from the behind the arc.

Creighton came out strong in the second half hitting on their first three possessions before Maple’s three made it 55-29. Creighton went on 13-2 run before Melia Pence’s bucket make it 68-33 with 11:00 remaining. The teams traded buckets until the Bluejays extended the lead to 84-43 with 3:41 remaining.

Kelce Goebel chipped in her first four points of the night in the final 1:30 of regulation and the Bluejays came away with the 88-48 victory.

Maple led the Jennies with 14 points. Blakemore and Jones chipped in 11 and 10, respectively.
