Mules rank third nationally in home attendance

A "Black-Out Saturday" crowd of 5,378 that witnessed the Mules run past Northwest Missouri State on national TV (Feb. 21), helped to bolster the Mules average home attendance to 2,982, ranking third best in D-II for the 2008-2009 season.

The Mules averaged just under 3,000 fans per home game in 17 dates, with home crowds of over 4,000 on four other different dates, and topped 3,000 on three other home dates. The Mules came up short against the top-ranked, and eventual national champion, Findlay Oilers at the NCAA-II Elite Eight on Thursday night, March 26th, in Springfield, Mass., falling 67-65 in a semi-final round game. The Mules, who led by five at the half, will end the season with a 30-5 record after having their 10-game winning streak snapped.

Sanijay Watts (pictured above) led four UCM players in double figures with 18 points, while De'Andre Byrd added 13. Tremaine Luellen and Joe Young both finished with 11 points.

Mules claim South Central Regional title to advance to Elite Eight

Mules display the NCAA-II South Central Regional Trophy

The Mules are headed back to the NCAA-II Elite Eight following a dominating 98-63 victory over Southwest Baptist in the NCAA-II South-Central Regional championship game last Tuesday night at the UCM Multipurpose Building.

Sanijay Watts (pictured above) lead the Mules balanced attack with 22 points, and was named to the All-Regional Team as the MVP, one of four Mules on the squad. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by De'Andre Byrd, Tremaine Luellen, and Alex Moosman.

The victory Tuesday evening pushes the Mules record to 29-4, tying for the second most wins in a single season with the NCAA-II championship squad of 1983-84. Mules Recap »

The Mules made history Sunday by playing and winning their third consecutive overtime contest at the MIAA Post-Season Tournament, posting an 86-84 win over Missouri Western at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., and improving to 26-4. Mules Recap »

Sanijay Watts is a first-team All-MIAA selection in a vote by the conference coaches. Watts leads the MIAA in field goal percentage (59.2), and is joined by three other Mules' receiving Honorable Mention All-MIAA in Joe Young, Alex Moosman, and De'Andre Byrd, who was also selected as a member of the MIAA All-Defensive Team.
