Game #1 South-Central Regional
Dallas Baptist 89
Central Oklahoma 75

The first upset of the NCAA Division II South Central Men’s Basketball Regional didn’t take long as the sixth seeded Patriots of Dallas Baptist University knocked off the No. 3 University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 89-75 on Saturday in the first game of the day.
The opening period saw five ties and three lead changes before the Patriots (24-6) got a spark from Justin Pinckney to take a 21-19 lead. That trey sparked a 12-3 run that gave DBU a nine-point advantage with 4:29 left in the half. With 53 seconds before the break, the Patriots made it an 11 points margin, thanks to a couple charity tosses from Trent Brownlee. The Bronchos (24-6) rallied for the final five points of the half on the heels of a three by Eric Cazenave, making it 36-30 at the half.
Cazenave led all scorers with 12 at the break while teammate Lance Harper tallied 10. The Patriots were paced by Eddie Gloviak (#50 pictured above) with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. DBU shot 46.2 percent in the period, while holding UCO to 29.7 percent from the floor.
The Patriots took control in the second stanza, pushing the lead back to 11 with 15:49 left. The Bronchos made one last run at it and cut the advantage to 53-51 with 11:57 remaining on a Harper layup.
DBU answered fiercely though, going on a 16-0 run that spanned the next four-plus minutes. The Patriots hit a trio of threes in the stretch, and got eight points from Bryan Baumann in the run.
DBU would lead by double-digits the rest of the way, pushing the lead to as many as 21 with 2:14 remaining.
Bryan Baumann (#10 pictured at left) scored all 16 of his points in the final half, and joined four other Patriots in double-figures. Gloviak had a team-high 18 points, while Braxton Adamson had 16, and Jordan McGowen finished with 13. Trent Brownlee finished with 10 as well. DBU shot 50.9 percent for the game, and nailed 55.6 in the second half, despite 28 turnovers. DBU also hit 26-of-30 free throws.
Central Oklahoma was paced by Cazenave with 21 while Harper had 17. DeAngelo Garrett also had 13, and Victor Driver finished with 10. The Bronchos got only eight points off the bench and shot 37.7 percent from the floor, turning it over 16 times.
The Patriots will face the winner of No. 2 Southwest Baptist and No. 7 Angelo State on Saunday at 4:00 p.m.
