Jennies advance to round two of the
NCAA-II Central Regional
Erin Hainey scored the game winner (her first goal of the season)
with just under two minutes to play
The Central Missouri Jennies soccer team won the first NCAA tournament game in program history 2-1 over the University of Mary (N.D.) on Friday in Mankato, Minn.
The Jennies (13-4-3) scored a goal in the 89th minute to take the lead and withstood a late charge from Mary for the 2-1 win. The Marauders took the lead in the 32nd minute when they beat Jennies goalkeeper Liz Casey for the 1-0 lead. UCM tied the game in the 51st minute when Angela Dobbie scored off an assist from Carrie Twellman. The Jennies scored the game-winner with 1:59 remaining when Erin Hainey scored her first goal of the season. Lindsay Hoerl and Hazel Cox were credited with assists. Mary had two shots in the waning seconds, but UCM held off the Marauders for the win. Casey had six saves while earning the win for the Jennies.
UCM will face the host school and No. 1 seed Minnesota State-Mankato on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the second round.
