Jennies blitz Lions in MIAA opener

Sharaya Sidebottom
Sharaya Sidebottom scored a goal and added an assist in the victory

The soccer team played on their home turf Thursday night for the first time this season against MIAA foe Missouri Southern, and came away with a big win. UCM shut out the Lions 3-0 as the Jennies have taken the last three games the two teams have played against each other, dating back to last season.

The Jennies (2-2-1) came out fighting as they got on the board in the first minute of the game off a kick from Sharaya Sidebottom that went over the hands of MSSU’s goalie Randi Russell. Jenna Stones was recorded as getting an assist on the goal. Sidebottom now has two goals on the season, both game-winners.

In the second half of play, Central Missouri added two insurance goals and to secure the Jennies second win of the season. Melanie Hall put the ball in the back of the net in the 50th minute off of a pass from Sidebottom. Angela Dobbie added the third goal in the 81st minute as Kayla Shain recorded the assist.

Net minder Lauren Bamvakais played the whole game without facing a shot as she recorded her second shutout of the season.

Central Missouri recorded 15 shots in the game as the Lions only had two. The Jennies also had six corner kicks to MSSU’s one.
