The 2005 Jennies soccer team, fresh off a second place finish in the conference, landed seven players on the All-MIAA squad on Wednesday. Freshmen Carrie Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) and Hazel Cox (Olathe, Kan.) both earned first-team accolades.
Cox led the team and was third in the MIAA in goals with 12 and points with 28 this season. She was also second in the league in shots with 66. She was named Brine/MIAA Player of the Week in each of the final two weeks of the year.
Twellman was second on the team with nine goals and 20 points. She also tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with five and had the MIAA’s high point game of the season against Southwest Minnesota State when she scored three goals and dished out an assist. That performance earned her Brine/MIAA Player of the Week honors.
Grabbing second-team honors for the second straight season were sophomores Jamie Lawrence (Olathe, Kan.) and Kelsi Ginavan (Olathe, Kan.). Junior Mallory Milburn (Olathe, Kan.) earned her third All-MIAA team appearance as she also earned second-team accolades for the second consecutive time.
Taking honorable mention All-MIAA accolades was senior defender Alicia Givens (Owasso, Okla.) and freshman forward Landri Schmitt (Olathe, Kan.). Milburn, Ginavan, and Givens anchored a CMSU defense that boasted a 1.37 goals against average and six shutouts in 2005. The Jennies defense allowed 15 fewer goals and 81 fewer shots in 2005 compared to 2004.Lawrence scored four goals and handed out two assists this season while Schmitt tallied three goals and dished out a team-high five assists.
The Jennies improved their number of wins by seven this season and had their first winning record since 2002 with an 11-8-1 mark.
