Jennies knock off Bulldogs in OT, 1-0
For the first time since 2001, the Jennies soccer team defeated Truman State on Saturday 1-0. The win came in dramatic fashion as Hazel Cox (Olathe, Kan.) scored the sudden death goal just 2:59 into overtime.
The opening period was fairly uneventful as each team generated only one shot. The half was played mostly in the midfield and evenly as far as possession.
The second period saw the Jennies grab a small 5-3 shooting advantage and force TSU goalkeeper Lauren Davis to make four saves. Truman put one shot on goal in the half but Central Missouri net-minder Andrea Dixon (Sacramento, Calif.) was up to the task as she made one of her two saves on the day.
In the overtime period, Truman put up the first shot but CMSU ended the game. Carrie Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) drove a corner kick inside the six yard box where the ball was knocked down and Cox tapped in the loose ball rebound.
The Jennies also broke a school record for home wins in a season with their seventh victory of the year at the South Recreation Complex.
CMSU also puts the MIAA title hopes back in its own hands with the win. If the Jennies win their last two remaining games, they guarantee themselves a share of the title.
