Soccer Jennies land two on All-Region squads

The Central Missouri State Jennies soccer squad improved its win total by seven games with an 11-8-1 record and finished second in the MIAA (8-5-1) after a taking sixth the previous season. Freshmen Hazel Cox (Olathe, Kan.) and Carrie Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) were big parts of that turnaround and were named to the NCAA Division-II NSCAA All-Central Region team on Tuesday.

Cox, a second-team all-region pick at forward, led the Jennies and finished third in the MIAA in goals with 12 and points with 28. She was second in the league in shots with 66. A first-team All-MIAA selection, she was named conference Player of the Week each of the final two weeks of the year.

Twellman, who earned third-team all-region at midfield, was second on the team with nine goals and 20 points. The first-team all-conference pick also tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with five and had the MIAA’s high-point game of the season against Southwest Minnesota State when she scored three goals and dished out an assist. That performance helped her earn MIAA Player of the Week honors.

The freshman duo helped the CMSU offense nearly doubled its output from the previous season with 40 goals in 2005 (compared to 21 in 2004).
