Jennies take Hornets, 3-0

The Central Missouri State Jennies moved into third place in the MIAA with a 3-0 win over Emporia State on Friday night. Freshman Carrie Twellman (St. Louis, Mo.) scored two goals off feeds from classmate Hazel Cox (Olathe, Kan.) to help the Jens to a 7-5 overall mark and a 4-2 MIAA record.

CMSU was all over the Hornets from the start as it scored in the 15th minute. A pass from Landri Schmitt (Olathe, Kan.) started it all. She sent it to Cox who took a touch and slid it to Twellman across the middle for the finish. The Jennies kept the pressure on with more opportunities before the break but they couldn’t find the net.

They would put some distance from the Hornets just 4:42 into the second half though. Cox dribbled through two defenders on the right side and then slotted it back to Twellman for the tap in. Jamie Lawrence (Olathe, Kan.) capped the scoring In the 67th minute when she hammered a loose ball in the box past the ESU goalkeeper. The Jens out-shot the Hornets 18-4 in the outing while Goalkeeper Andrea Dixon (Sacramento, Calif.) earned the shutout with a three-save performance.
