Jennies fall to Southwest Baptist, 2-0
The University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer team dropped their first home match in exactly one year to Southwest Baptist, 2-0 on Wednesday night in Warrensburg. Their last home loss was to Washburn, 2-0 on September 20, 2005.
The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes as neither team was able to mount a consistent offensive threat. The Jens (6-2, 1-2 MIAA) held a slight 5-3 advantage in shots with two of those on goal. Central Missouri had a couple of great scoring chances late in the first half when Melanie Hall hit a header just wide in the 42nd minute and Carrie Twellman had a shot on goal that was saved just 0:44 from intermission.
In the second half the Lady Bearcats (5-1-2, 3-1 MIAA) used two goals in the first eight minutes and had then had to withstand a couple of furious rallies in front of their net to preserve the shutout. Erin Hainey had the best two chances in the second half blasting one right into the goalie’s midsection and on another shot in which the keeper made a diving stop to knock the ball away.
For the game the Jens out shot SBU by a 15-9 count, but were only able to get five on goal compared to six for Southwest Baptist.
