The Jennies didn’t allow a Bearcat shot until well into the second period but they gave up a late goal for a 1-0 loss on Wednesday afternoon. Southwest Baptist lived on the edge during the game as it was forced to clear three balls off the goal line to preserve the shutout.
The Jennies out-shot the Bearcats 5-0 in the opening period, controlling the ball most of the time but failed to convert any opportunities to grab the lead. Jamie Lawrence (Olathe, Kan.) had three shots in the half to lead the squad.
The second stanza saw the Bearcats close the gap by taking four shots on goal but the Jens took five shots. It only took one goal though, and Southwest Baptist got it on a header off a corner kick from Priscilla Duncan in the 83rd minute. But with only seven minutes remaining, CMSU couldn’t get the equalizer. Whitney Maxwell (Kansas City, Mo.) paced CMSU with three shots on goal while goalkeeper Andrea Dixon (Sacramento, Calif.) grabbed three saves on the day.
