The Central Missouri State Jennies had two costly second half errors as they let the Washburn forwards get behind for breakaway goals. The 2-0 loss dropped CMSU to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA.
The first part of the opening half was controlled by the Jens with most of the play on the Washburn end but the tides changed during the last 20 minutes when the Lady Blues battled back to get their own share of opportunities. The squads went into the half tied at 0-0 with CMSU holding a 6-5 shot advantage.
The second stanza was mostly played on the Lady Blues side of the pitch but a Jessica Mainz broke past the CMSU defense in the 52nd minute for the easy slot into the net. The Jens took nine shots in the half compared to five for Washburn but they couldn’t get one. WU iced the game on a counter attack breakaway from Jolene Silovsky in the 81st minute. The win was the first time Washburn has ever defeated Central Missouri.
