Jennies hold off Wayne State

The Jennies won their third straight to open the season against Wayne State, 4-2 last night in Warrensburg. It’s the second time in as many seasons that CMSU has won its first three games.
The Jens (3-0) opened the game attacking the Wildcats (2-1) and were rewarded with a goal in the 25th minute when freshman
Melanie Hall, received a pass from Landri Schmitt and slid a left-footed shot from the left side and tucked it inside the right post. Schmitt gave CMSU a 2-0 lead almost five minutes later when she took a pass from Carrie Twellman inside the penalty box and rifled a shot into the net from about 15 yards away. WSC got on the board in the 37th minute on a put back goal to make it 2-1 heading into the break.
Twellman extended the lead to 3-1 just seven minutes into the second half converting on a penalty kick. The Jennies would get their final goal in the 70th minute when
Randi Fernsler beat her defender and ripped a shot inside the far post to extend the lead to three. The Wildcats got another goal off a put back with about eight minutes remaining in the contest for the final margin.
For the game CMSU out shot Wayne State by a 23-4 margin and had a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
