Jennies suffer first defeat of 2006
In a battle of unbeaten squads the Washburn Lady Blues handed Central Missouri soccer their first loss of the 2006 season, 2-1 on Saturday in Topeka, Kan.
The Jennies (6-1, 1-1 MIAA) held a slight edge in shots 7-5 in the first half, but all five of WU’s (8-0-1, 3-0 MIAA) were on goal. The Lady Blues grabbed an early lead with a goal in the 25th minute, but the Jens responded just over six minutes later when Hazel Cox took a pass from Carrie Twellman and shot it into the back of the net for the equalizer to send the teams into the break tied 1-1.
In the second half it was all Washburn as they out shot Central Missouri 10-2 and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Lady Blues scored the game winner in the 69th minute from the right side of the box from 10 yards away.
For the game WU held a 15-9 shot advantage for the game and 10-2 in shots on goal. Liz Casey recorded eight saves for the Jennies.
