Jennies roll past Missouri Western, 5-0

The last four games the Central Missouri Jennies soccer team has had a tough time putting the ball in the back of the net, but on Friday night they exploded with four goals in the second half in route to a 5-0 win over Missouri Western in Warrensburg.
Holding true to form as in the last couple of games the Jens (8-2-1, 3-2-1 MIAA) controlled the action by out shooting the Griffons (1-7-2, 0-5 MIAA) 15-1 in the opening stanza including putting six on goal, but were unable to score until just under five minutes remained before the intermission when Carrie Twellman slid a pass to Landri Schmitt, who slipped it past the keeper.  For Twellman it was only the beginning of things to come as she assisted on two more goals in the second half to tie a Central Missouri single game record with three assists in one match.  MWSU had a chance to take the lead a few minutes earlier when a free kick went off Shannon Ponche’s hands, but she was able to recover before the ball crossed the goal line.
UCM extended its lead in the 3:30 minutes into the second half when Kylee Schuhler took a feed from Melanie Hall and blasted into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Missouri Western again had a chance to cut into the lead but missed a wide open net almost two minutes later. Hall would put the game away with her fifth and sixth goals of the season in the 64th and 67th minutes and Madeline Baker finished the scoring with just less than 15 minutes to play, chipping in a cross from Twellman, for her first goal of the season. Ponche recorded two saves to earn her first collegiate shutout.
For the game the Jennies out shot the Griffons 29-3 and put 12 on goal compared to only two for MWSU. UCM also had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
