Jennies down South Dakota, 2-1
For the first time in school history Jennies soccer has won its first four games of the season with a victory over South Dakota on Sunday, 2-1 in Warrensburg.
Landri Schmitt continued her great play this weekend putting CMSU on top in the 9th minute, when she intercepted a pass, beat a couple of defenders then blasted a shot into the far side of the goal. Schmitt had a hand in the second goal a little over two minutes later when she crossed a ball to Hazel Cox, who settled the ball and buried it into an open net after the goalkeeper had come out on the cross. USD turned up the pressure and had a couple of good goal scoring chances with a shot hitting off the post and Schmitt coming up big again this time knocking a ball off the line to send the Jennies into the break up 2-0.
The Jennies continued applying pressure in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net and the Coyotes took advantage with a goal in the 82nd minute to cut the lead to one. South Dakota continued attacking trying to get the tying goal but the CMSU defense held tough over the final eight minutes to preserve the victory.
