Truman comes from behind to nip Jennies 2-1
The Central Missouri State soccer team had six-time defending MIAA Champion Truman State down 1-0 with 19 minutes to play but couldn’t hold on to drop a 2-1 decision in Kirksville on Sunday.
All of the goals took place in the last 20 minutes of the game with CMSU striking first in the 71st minute. The scorer was an unlikely one as freshman Whitney Maxwell (Kansas City, Mo.), in only her sixth taste of action this season, rocked a shot from about 25 yards out to put the Jens up 1-0. Truman would answer though, and only five minutes later as Katie Buning got the tally from five yards out. The Bulldogs got the game-winner in the 85th minute off a rebound shot from Robyn Mortensen. Goalkeeper Andrea Dixon (Sacramento, Calif.) made four saves on the day for CMSU.
The Jennies (7-6, 4-3 MIAA) are in third place after the first half of the conference schedule, trailing Truman and Missouri Southern.
