Lewis Theobald

Head Coach

Lewis Theobald will be in his third season as head coach at Central Missouri. He came to UCM from Division I Indiana State where he was the top assistant.

Last season, Theobald was named NSCAA/Adidas South-Central Regional "Coach of the Year" after guiding the Jennies to a record breaking campaign that included a record of 15-4-2, a second MIAA championship, and host of an NCAA-II regional match.

In his first season in 2007, Theobald guided the Jennies to a 13-4-4 record and the first conference title in school history. UCM advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year and won the school’s first ever NCAA Tournament game before falling in the second round.

University of Central Missouri Jennies Athletic Director Jerry Hughes announced Theobald as the new head coach on April 13, 2007.

"Lewis brings a wide variety of experience in the soccer world to UCM." Said Hughes. "We feel like he will build off the recent success of Jennies soccer and take the program to an even higher level."

Theobald took over a program that made the first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history with a 12-5-3 record, while losing only one player to graduation.

“I really appreciate the administration giving me the opportunity for such a great position.” Said Theobald. “I get to take over a program that is in great shape already with the job that Geoff VanDeusen did.”

A 1999 graduate of the University of Kansas, Theobald served the past year as the first assistant coach at Division I Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference. While there, he was the lead recruiter and was responsible for scouting as well as game and player evaluations.

Prior to that, he coached in the Kansas City area. He had a stint as the boys and girls head coach at Olathe Northwest High School from 2003-2006 and as an assistant at Olathe East from 1999-2003. While at Olathe East, he helped the squad to the 2001 Kansas State Title and the team was nationally or regionally ranked in 1999, 2000, and 2001 by the NSCAA.

During his time in the area, he also coached one of the elite club teams in the area, the Kansas City Strikers United. Responsible for player and team development, the program was ranked as one of the top teams in the Midwest by gotsoccer.com.

Theobald has also been involved in the Olympic Development program for the past six years in both Kansas and Indiana. He helped with the selection of the state team and was the head coach of the 1988 girls age group that had two players selected to attend the national team camp and two players selected to the region team.

Theobald is nationally licensed by the United States Soccer Federation and a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He also ran cross country and track for the Jayhawks, earning Academic Big XII three times and a Jayhawk Scholar honors six times.

He and his wife Katie have two children, two year old twins Gavin and Gareth.
