Jennies fall in NCAA South Central Regional match Sunday

The top-seeded Jennies saw their season end Sunday, falling 2-0 to fifth-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce in a second round match of the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament. The Jennies, who were making their third straight trip to the NCAA-II Tournament, saw the match swing on a pair of late second-half goals. Jennies take top honors in All-MIAA voting

Melanie Hall (pictured in action from earlier this season) was named the conference Most Valuable Player for 2008, and leads the league champion Jennies in taking the top honors in voting for the All-MIAA squad by the league coaches.

Hall is joined on the all-conference first team by Lauren Bamvakais and Alyssa Rhodes, who also shared the Freshman of the Year honor. Lewis Theobald was tabbed the Coach of the Year for the second straight season after guiding the Jennies to the conference title and a berth in the NCAA-II Tournament. Jennies put two on Daktronics All-Region Team

Randi Fernsler is a Daktronics first team All-Region selection

Fresh off their second consecutive MIAA soccer championship and their selection as the number one seed for the NCAA South Central Region tournament, the Jennies placed two players on the Daktronics South Central All-Region team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Senior defender Randi Fernsler was a first team selection, while sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Bamvakais was named to the all-region second team.

Fernsler has one goal and one assist on the season, both coming on game-winning goals. She has helped anchor a Jennies defense that has allowed 0.60 goals per game and tied a school record with 12 shutouts. Bamvakais has a goals against average of 0.55, made 64 saves on the year and recorded 12 shutouts. This is the first selection for both player. More Info »

The MIAA champion Jennies ended the regular season with their second straight loss, a 3-0 setback at Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday. The Jennies finish the regular season at 15-3-2 overall and 13-2-1 in conference action. Recap »


Schmitt named to Academic All-District Team

Landri Schmitt has been named to the ESPN The Magazine / CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Schmitt, who has a 3.73 GPA as a nursing major, is now eligible for Academic All-American honors.

Coach Lewis Theobald

Lewis Theobald, who named the Brine® Co-Coach of the Year in the MIAA after guiding the Jennies to a share of their first regular season conference championship in 2007, returns for his second season at the helm of the program. Theobald helped lead the Jennies to a second straight appearance in the NCAA-II playoffs and a record of 13-4-4.
