Jennies open 1-4 at TWU Invite
The Central Missouri Jennies softball team got off to a slow start at their season opening tournament in Denton, Texas. The Jennies went 1-4 at the two-day tournament hosted by Texas Woman’s University.
The Jennies dropped the opening game to the host school 3-0. UCM was only able to muster two hits against Texas Woman’s. In game two, UCM fell 11-6 to West Texas A&M. Tracey Anderson led the Jennies with three hits.
The Jennies got their first win of the season with a 6-3 victory over Henderson State (Ark.) in game three. Megan Leonard had 13 strikeouts in the complete game win. She also added three RBI at the plate.
UCM dropped an 8-5 decision to St. Edward’s (Texas) in game four. Leonard and Kherri-Dean Hummer had two hits apiece for the Jens.
In UCM’s final game of the tournament the Jennies lost a tough 3-2 game to No. 17 ranked Midwestern State (Texas). Leonard allowed four hits and one earned run in seven innings of work. Hummer and Melissa Palmer each drove in one run for the Jens.
