MIAA Track Logo

UCM Track and Field finished with mixed results over the weekend at the 2008 MIAA Outdoor Championships in Maryville, Missouri. The Mules claimed their third consecutive men’s outdoor championship, and their seventh in the last eight years, but the Jennies three-year hold on the women’s outdoor title ended as they finished second to Missouri Southern. UCM recorded a total of 11 conference event titles.

The Mules won eight events and were led by Damond Berry, who placed first in the 100 meter dash with a stadium record and second in the 200 meter dash, while also running on the winning 4x100 meter relay squad. Dan Raithel also came up big with a win in the hammer throw and a second place finish in the discus. Other Mules winning a conference title were Jaban Moore in the shot put, Eric Moore in the long jump, Kai Roper in the 400 meters and A.J. Roth in the decathlon. The 4x100 relay squad of Dannon Abney, Berry, Moore, and Chris Leverette also claimed top honors. The 4x400 relay squad of Abney, Kyle Brown, Britt Johnson, and Roper also earned a conference title.

For the Jens, Chelsea Luck and Anne Carlson led the way as they took titles in the 100 meter hurdles and heptathlon respectively. Luck, also ran a leg in the winning 4x100 relay team with Nikki Morris, Elise Johnson, and Evelise Gomez to capture top honors. The Mules and Jens will have athletes compete at the Emporia State Twilight Qualifier on Saturday, in a final effort to qualify for the NCAA-II Championships scheduled for May 22-24 in Walnut, California.
