Sophomore thrower Drew Frizzell grabbed his second individual national title of the year, and led the Mules track and field squad to a fifth place national finish this weekend at the NCAA Division II National Championships. The Jennies took 13th overall. Overall, the Mules had eight All-American performances (top eight finish), while the Jennies had three.
Frizzell had three of them, winning the national title in the hammer throw with a toss of 219-05, taking third in the discus at 168-00, and finishing sixth in the shot put at 56-10.
Senior Eric Moore was sixth in the long jump at 24-02.50, freshman Laban Sialo was sixth in the 10,000 meter run (30:20.28), and senior Jaban Moore finished eighth in the shot put at 56-00.00.
The Mules 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads both also finished with All-American performances. The 4x100 team of Dennis Hopgood, Eric Moore, Britt Johnson, and Ivey Lee took sixth at 40.79. The 4x400 team of Anthony Cooper, Darius Walker, Johnson, and Kai Roper was eighth in the finals at 3:20.60 after putting up a 3:10.75 time in the qualifying round.
For the Jennies, freshman Lindsay Lettow took fourth in the heptathlon with a score of 5,216. Senior Brittanie Roldan finished third in the triple jump at 40-06.75, and sophomore Jenna Schmitt just missed the national championship in the high jump, taking second at 5-09.75 due to the tiebreaker of number of misses on the last height.
The Mules tallied 30 points overall (5th) to finish tops among all MIAA schools, while the Jennies also led the MIAA opposition, putting up 19 points (13th).
