Mules claim fourth consecutive MIAA Outdoor title, Jennies finish third

Mules proudly display their MIAA Outdoor Championship Trophy
The Mules captured their fourth consecutive men's title, and eighth in the past nine years, as the 2009 MIAA Outdoor Championships ended Sunday in Joplin, Missouri. UCM men scored 198 points as a team and beat out runner-up Pittsburg State by 30 points for the 18th team title in Mules history. The Jennies scored 97 points and finished in third behind runner-up Truman State (124 points) and conference champion Missouri Southern (149 points), who earned their second consecutive title.
The Mules won five individual events and the 4x100 (41.01) and 4x400 relays (3:14.85). Individual conference champions for the Mules included Drew Frizzell in shot (58-04), Eric Moore in the long jump (24-01), Kevin Denny in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:20.39), Laban Sialo in the 10,000 meters (30:40.96), Britt Johnson in the 400 meters (48.28). Darius Walker earned the MIAA freshman high point individual by scoring 26.5 points. Walker placed second in the decathlon (6,444 points) which finished last Monday (April 27), then was second in the 400 meters (48.68), third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.18) and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (15.22). He also ran a leg on the conference champion 1600-meter relay (3:14.85). Frizzell scored 26 points for the Mules taking second in the hammer (198-4) and discus (162-2) to go along with his conference title in the shot put. Sialo also took second in the 5,000 meters (14:53.28) to score 18 points for UCM on the weekend.

For the Jens, Lindsay Lettow (pictured above) and Brittanie Roldan led the way as they took titles in the long jump and triple jump respectively. Lettow broke the school record in the long jump with a mark of 19-04.75 and also earned both the MIAA high point award and MIAA freshman high point award by scoring 37 points. She was also was third in the 110-meter (14.73) and 400-meter (1:03.27) hurdles as well as the high jump (5-3), after placing second in the heptathlon (4,796) last Monday (April 27) in Maryville, Mo. She also was on the Jennies' fifth-place 400-meter relay team (48.85).
