Piontek announces first signee

The University of Central Missouri volleyball squad and Head Coach Flip Piontek announced the signing of Julia Bates to play for the Jennies in 2009.

Leavenworth, Kan.  *  Lansing High School

A two-time all-state performer for head coach Julie Slater at Lansing High School, she led her team to Sub-State titles as a junior and senior… as a junior she helped them to a fourth place finish in the state, and as a senior they were a state tournament participant earning all-tournament team honors both years… Bates earned four letters, all-conference honors in 2007 and 2008, and all-metro honorable mention accolades in her career… she also participated in the Mo-Kan All-Star Game… born March 7, 1991… daughter of Ron and Sharon Bates.


Huffman named "Regional Freshman of the Year" / Honorable Mention All-American

Allie Huffman (pictured above) has been tabbed the Freshman of the Year in the South Central Region by the AVCA, and has also added "Honorable Mention All-American" to her post-season honors. Huffman, named the MIAA "Freshman of the Year" earlier, was selected to the AVCA-II All-American squad after helping Jennies volleyball to a 29-10 record and the semi-finals of the NCAA-II South-Central Regional.

Jennies had three other players receive honorable mention on the All-Region Squad in Rachel Fister, Paula Harris, and Caitlin Pankratz. More Info »

Jennies season ends, Martin's coaching career ends, in semi-final loss at regional

The Jennies came up short in their semi-final round match of the NCAA-II South-Central Regional in Emporia, Kan., on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Truman State. The loss marks the end of the 33-year coaching career of Peggy Martin, who had already announced her plans to retire at the end of the season. Martin finishes her career with 1064 victories.

The Jennies, who were ranked 12th in the latest AVCA-II Poll, cap the year at 29-10 and were making their record 26th consecutive appearance in the NCAA-II Tournament.

Five Jennies receive All-MIAA recognition

The Jennies have five representatives on the 2008 All-MIAA Team announced on Wednesday, including Rachel Fister selected to the first-team as the Libero, and Allie Huffman named Freshman of the Year. Huffman was also a second-team all-conference pick, along with Paula Harris and Caitlin Pankratz, while Jacquelyn Williams received honorable mention. More Info »


Jennies make final home match one to remember

In front of a regular season record crowd of 1351 Friday evening, the Jennies gave retiring Head Coach Peggy Martin and three seniors a night to remember. The Jennies picked up a 3-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha to finish the regular season with a 15-5 record in the MIAA, and an overall mark of 28-9.

However the night belonged to Coach Martin and the Jennies three seniors in their final appearance at home. Ceremonies after the match honored the three seniors (Brooke Butler, Carrie Peterson, and Jacquelyn Williams) and Head Coach Dr. Peggy Martin, who had already announced her plans to retire after this season.
