Mules finish 2-2 at Newberry Duals

Denis Rhyzov won three matches wrestling at two different weight classes

The 20th-ranked Central Missouri Mules wrestling squad went 2-2 at the Newberry College Duals held Wednesday in Newberry, S.C. The Mules lost their first dual of the day 25-12 to 13th-ranked Findlay (Ohio). UCM responded winning the next two duals, 24-15 over Belmont-Abbey (N.C.) and 20-15 over Anderson (S.C.). The Mules dropped their final dual of the day 42-0 to the host school, fifth-ranked Newberry College.

The Mules got decisions from Byron Clark, Grant Baker, Denis Ryzhov and Cody Beck during the 25-12 opening round loss to No. 13 Findlay. Beck, who is ranked eighth in the latest D-II Rankings, beat No. 4 Travis Clark in a tiebreaker.

In round two, UCM got pins from Baker and Beck en route to a 24-15 win over Belmont-Abbey College. Also recording wins were Clark, Cory Bloodgood, Ryzhov and Chase Chavers with decisions.

The Mules beat Anderson College 20-15 in round three behind pins from Baker and Beck. Bret Marshall, Ryzhov and Chavers all recorded decisions to help the Mules to the win.

The Mules dropped their final dual of the day 42-0 the fifth-ranked Newberry College. Baker dropped a 5-2 decision to eighth-ranked Andrew Young, Bloodgood fell 4-2 to sixth-ranked Tony Washington and Ryzhov dropped a 5-3 decision to seventh-ranked Sean Byrnes.
