The defending champion teams from Missouri Southern were tabbed to finish first in both the men’s and women’s coaches polls. The Southern men received seven first-place votes and 49 points. Southwest Baptist came in second with 40 points (one first-place vote) and Pittsburg State was third with 38 points. The Mules were tied for fourth with Emporia State at 27 points each.
On the women’s side the Lions received seven first-place votes and 63 points. Pittsburg State was second with 57 points (two first-place votes). Southwest Baptist was third with 50 points and the Jennies were fourth with 40 points.
Each conference coach ranked the teams in the order they expected them to finish. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
