For the first 22 years of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association women’s cross country championships, the Central Missouri State University Jennies won only one league title. In the past two years, CMSU’s Jennies have doubled that total. The Jens defended their 2004 conference crown by out-scoring host Pittsburg State University to win the 2005 MIAA title.The Jennies scored 40 points, Pittsburg State had 61, and Truman State University was third with 89.Sophomore Gina Kennison won the individual crown, covering the 6K course in 21 minutes, 52 seconds.For the Mules, senior Jarod Wall took the title with a first place time of 24:55.00 over the 8K. As a team, the Mules couldn’t quite pull off the sweep, as they were second with 65 points. Missouri Southern State University won the meet with 48 points.The Jennies had five in the top 15. Danielle Moul-Nagel was third in 21:59.30, Sandy Davidson was ninth in 22:28.30, while Nicole Hasemeier and Erin Hasemeier were 12th and 15th, respectively in 22:42.50 and 22:45.70.Alison Kelley was 36th in 23:57.20, Laura Adams was 38th in 24:01.40, and Yazmi Sarmiento Vallejo was 45th in 24:21.80.For the Mules, Joe Mundt and Dennis Hill joined Wall as top 10 finishers. Mundt was fourth in 25:38.70 and Hill was ninth in 25:51.50. Chris Colesworthy placed 20th in 26:29.80 and Jeremy Hammer finished CMSU’s scoring in 32nd at 27:09.10.Also running for the Mules were Daniel Molnar (35th in 27:15.90), Joe Nagel (37th in 27:18.20), Neil Theriault (42nd in 27:37.70), and Matt Merrigan (43rd in 27:50.40).
