 Biology Student Accomplishments

The Department of Biology over the years has had and will continue to have outstanding biology undergraduate and graduate students that have received prestigious awards from the University of Central Missouri and from external sources.

Some of the awards received include the following:

  • the Reid Hemphill Award for the outstanding graduate scholar;
  • the research thesis award for the outstanding thesis submitted to the graduate school;
  • Sigma Xi awards both internally through our local Sigma Xi Chapter and externally from the national organization;
  • other external student awards, for example, honors college awards and projects, graduate school travel awards, Willard North awards, professional society travel awards or research project awards;
  • the Department of Biology Alumni Awards for students;
  • the McNair Scholar Awards and papers published in the McCap Journal;
  • student research assistants on externally funded grant awards;
  • authorship of research papers, posters, abstracts, and best paper awards attributed to students;
  • participation in the UCM Research Symposium and those awards;
