Research/Creative Assistance Award
In order to promote research and creative activity in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Dean will annually fund release time, travel, or other expenses for faculty to engage in major research or creative activity, as long as funds are available. The amount of funding may vary each year depending on resources available.
Release time is normally granted for one semester, but additional assistance may be requested such as summer pay, travel to conduct research (not present it), research materials, etc. A recipient of an assistance award in the form of release time may neither accept employment outside the university nor teach an overload during this time-period.
Further, the Dean plans to award challenge-grant stipends to faculty writing proposals to external funding agencies.
1. Eligibility/Stipulations
• full-time tenure-track faculty in the College;
• served the university for three years after returning from a sabbatical or paid leave.
• priority given to faculty not awarded a CAHSS-RCAA during the previous year.
2. General Procedures – Applicants must complete the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Research/Creative Assistance Award form and submit it to their department chair for consideration. A recommendation from a colleague that addresses the merit of the proposed research or scholarly work must be included. The chair will then forward the request to the Dean’s office. The chair must attach a letter of support.
