College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Employers are increasingly seeking college graduates with the creativity and adaptability to overcome any need or challenge. Learn these and other fundamental skills that transcend your degree and transfer across all careers when you study within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Central Missouri. Whether you’re completing one of our bachelor’s or master’s degrees or enhancing your major with one of our minors, you’ll learn to be a critical thinker, effective communicator, active collaborator and creative problem-solver. These highly valued competencies have enabled our graduates to attend law school or get jobs as account executives, social services directors, journalists, graphic designers, professional musicians, teachers and production artists, among countless others, and then quickly advance in their careers.

Explore our diverse programs — designed to satisfy any passion and, more importantly, provide the foundation you need for success through access to UCM’s resources, which include:

  • State-of-the-art facilities and venues: From fully equipped theaters and impressive music studios to a mobile broadcast unit, UCM offers impressive spaces to explore your craft.
  • High-impact experiences: Apply your learning outside the classroom for experience that enhances your resume and builds your network. Participate in the Muleskinner student newspaper, UCM Mock Trial, study abroad and a wide variety of other student activities.
  • Nationally accredited programs: As a UCM graduate, you’ll be recognized for your quality education. Our School of Visual and Performing Arts, for example, holds an impressive range of accreditations as well as the longest tradition of accreditation — over 60 years — at the national and international levels of all Missouri universities.
  • Financial awards and scholarships: UCM’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences has over 100 named and endowed scholarships for which you may qualify. Every year, we also recognize several outstanding students with monetary awards.
  • Support of expert faculty: Study under our faculty of performers, artists, professional designers, active scholars and researchers. Expect their support every step of the way and well into your future.
