College of Education
Midwest Center for Charter Schools and Urban Education
University of Central Missouri sponsors nine charter schools consisting of five elementary schools, one middle school, and three high schools, serving students residing in Kansas City, Missouri.
The university's role with these schools enhances its ability to provide a more comprehensive teacher preparation program, as well as contribute to its mission of service to at-risk students.
UCM's evaluation and assessment criteria for sponsorship of these schools can be found in the 2003 Charter Schools Task Force Final Report.
A charter school is an independent public school that operates under a contract, referred to as the "charter," with a public entity such as a state university or the state department of education. For more information on charter schools visit the Missouri Charter Public School Association. Please also visit the National Association of Charter School Authorizers for more information on charter school authorizers.
