Student Teaching as an Alternative Pathways to Certification Candidate
You must have a clinical experience in your area of certification to gain certification in the State of Missouri.
If you are pursuing the Master of Arts in Teaching degree or the Master of Science in Career and Technology Education degree and want to student teach.
- Master of Arts in Teaching canidates must have completed 24 hours of MAT classes prior to enrollment in EDFL 5100, Internship I.
- Student teaching arrangements need to be made one semester in advance. Arrangements of student teaching must be made by December 1st for fall semester and May 1st for spring semester.
- Any application received by Clinical Services and Certification after the December 1 or May 1 due dates will be assessed an additional charge of $100.
- Complete the Student Teaching/Internship form.
- Submit the completed form to Clinical Services and Certification, Lovinger 2170, University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO 64093
- Attend one of the preliminary meetings scheduled the semester prior to student teaching. The dates and location of the preliminary meetings are available at www.ucmo.edu/teach by selecting the appropriate semester under "Calendar."
- At the preliminary meeting, you will make arrangements to finalize your student teaching. The "Preliminary Meeting Documents" available at "Documents for Students" are required as part of this process.
- You will need to enroll in EDFL 5100, Internship I, during your student teaching semester.
- Additionally, you will be enrolled in either 5 or 6 undergraduate hours of student teaching.
- Alternative pathways to certification candidates will be responsible for the same requirements as undergraduate students during their student teaching semester.
- You will fulfill your Missouri Standards For Professional Educators (MoSPE) requirement for certification during the internship class.
If you are pursuing certification only and not employed as a teacher, in your certification area, but want to student teach to fulfill your clinical experience.
- Student teaching arrangements need to be made one semester in advance. Arrangements of student teaching must be made by December 1st for fall semester and May 1st for spring semester.
- Any application received by Clinical Services and Certification after the December 1 or May 1 due dates will be assessed an additional charge of $100.
- You will be student teaching similar to an undergraduate student.
- Complete the Non-Degree Seeking Certification Only form.
- Submit the completed form to Clinical Services and Certification, Lovinger 2170, University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO 64093.
- Attend one of the preliminary meetings scheduled the semester prior to student teaching. The dates and location of the preliminary meetings are available at www.ucmo.edu/teach by selecting the appropriate semester under "Calendar."

- You will be enrolled in twelve undergraduate hours of student teaching.
- Alternative pathways to certification candidates will be responsible for the same requirements as undergraduate students during their student teaching semester.
- You will fulfill your Missouri Standards For Professional Educators (MoSPE) requirement for certification during student teaching.
If you are pursuing certification only and employed as the full-time contracted teacher, in your certification area, in a Missouri school district, you should request to student teach to fulfill your clinical experience.
- Student teaching arrangements need to be made one semester in advance. Arrangements of student teaching must be made by December 1st for fall semester and May 1st for spring semester.
- Any application received by Clinical Services and Certification after the December 1 or May 1 due dates will be assessed an additional charge of $100.
- You will not be student teaching as an undergraduate student. You will continue teaching in your classroom during your student teaching semester.
- Complete the Provisional Certificate-Student Teaching form
- Submit the completed form to Clinical Services and Certification, Lovinger 2170, University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO 64093
- You will be enrolled in either 5 or 6 undergraduate hours of student teaching.
- You will fulfill your Missouri Standards For Professional Educators (MoSPE) requirement for certification during student teaching.
If you are pursuing the Master of Arts in Teaching degree and employed as the full-time contracted teacher, in your certification area, in a Missouri school district, you should enroll in EDFL 5100, Internship I, after you have completed 24 hours of MAT classes. EDFL 5100, Internship I, will fulfill the clinical experience and Missouri Standards For Professional Educators (MoSPE) requirement for certification.
If you are pursuing the Master of Science in Career and Technology Education degree and employed as the full-time contracted teacher, in your certification area, in a Missouri school district, you should enroll in T&OE 4022, Internship, during the next semester. T&OE 4022, Internship, will fulfill the clinical experience and Missouri Standards For Professional Educators (MoSPE) requirement for certification.
Note: Alternative pathways to certification candidates must take the appropriate Praxis II test prior to the semester they will be student teaching.
