Seventh National Title – American Criminal Justice Association/Lambda Alpha Epsilon – 2009 National Conference

The Gamma Epsilon Delta Chapter (G.E.D.) of the American Criminal Justice Association/Lambda Epsilon Delta (ACJA/LAE) at the University of Central Missouri won their seventh consecutive National Championship at the National Conference held in April, 2009 in Jacksonville, Florida. LAE is the professional criminal justice fraternity.
The chapter had thirty-eight members representing them at the conference at all levels, lower division (under 70 semester hours), upper division (70 hours of over) and professional division.
Their First Place finish by winning the Sweepstakes Award was very impressive. In the area of Academic Testing, which includes the areas of Criminal Law, Corrections, Juvenile Justice, Police Management, LAE Knowledge and Crime Scene Investigation, individuals within the chapter took thirteen of the fifty-four trophies.
In Firearms Competition, they took eight of the nine individual trophies and five of the nine team trophies. MAJ Richard Gillespie won Top Gun honors, as the top shooter. The chapter also took five of the nine Crime Scene Investigation (Team) trophies.
One member received a trophy in the Physical Agility Course. Another member received a trophy for the Talent/Lip Sync Contest.
Students received three of the nine awards for the Student Paper Competition.
In addition to receiving the Sweepstakes Award, G.E.D. also won the Spirit Award. The Spirit Award is based on attendance at all events during the week long competition, participation in the various areas of competition, proper conduct and attire, and overall good citizenship.
Region 3 (the nine-state region which includes the State of Missouri) was chosen as the Outstanding Region, also for the seventh consecutive year. Dr. Roger Pennel, faculty advisor of the organization, is the President of Region 3
