Every Communication major completes an identical 7 credit hours referred to as the "core." These courses provide a consistent base of knowledge, or foundation, across all programs upon which each builds.
The core courses are:
COMM 1100: Introduction to Communication Studies
One credit hour exploring communication’s impact on society, communication career opportunities and the Department of Communication assessment program.
COMM 2100: Introduction to Communication Theory
Three credit hours discovering how theory is approached, how theory advances the communication field and how theory explains communication events.
COMM 3100: Communication Research Methods
Three credit hours learning communication research rationale, methods, and techniques; learning to competently read, evaluate, and utilize published research; and learning to connect research to the real world.
