UCM, Chamber of Commerce to Present 2013 MLK Community Service Awards
Community leaders and organizations will be recognized for their contributions to their communities as part of UCM's 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration as UCM joins the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center in presenting the MLK Community Service Awards.
The awards will be presented at the chamber's monthly luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the White Rose Pavilion, 107 Ming St. in Warrensburg.
The Harvest of Hope outreach programs at Shiloh Baptist Church in Warrensburg will be recognized with the Humanitarian Award. Willie Shields, executive director of Destiny House, a Warrensburg homeless shelter, will be recognized with the Leadership Award. Receiving the Service Award will be Bob Vickers, executive director of the Johnson County United Way, and Paige Becker, a UCM construction management student who has served as a coordinator with the joint Habitat for Humanity project currently underway in Warrensburg.
