Congratulations to the University of Central Missouri math team who took the first place in the 18th Annual Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition. A total of 40 teams from Washington University in St. Louis, University of Missouri-Columbia, Missouri University of Science and Technology, St. Louis University, Trumann State University, and other colleges and universities across Missouri participated in the completion held April 18-19 at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. Our winning team members were Joel Jefferies, Stanley Ho, and Brandon Burns. The team is coached by Dr. Rhonda McKee and Dr. Lianwen Wang. The competition consists of two sessions, in each of which teams work collaboratively on five problems for two-and-a-half hours. The competition is sponsored by the Missouri section of the Mathematical Association of America and began in 1996. This is the first time a UCM team has captured first place.
The second team from UCM ranked 16th in this competition. The team members were Amy Billups, Mary Gossell, and Leighann Sherfey.
