Call for identifying sustainable-themed courses

There is a demand for updating UCM's inventory of sustainability courses, which are currently designated in the catalog. A committee is being formed to perform such a task and they would like to invite you to submit potential courses for consideration.

The definition of sustainability courses may be as elusive as the definition of sustainability. We will adopt University of Arizona’s sustainability course identification approach: a sustainability course examines environmental, social and/or economic dimensions of a topic within the context of sustaining specific qualities over the long-term (https://stars.aashe.org/institutions/university-of-arizona-az/report/2012-02-10/1/3/14/). That is, a sustainability course integrates the principles, values, and/or practices of sustainability as a theme throughout the course, in one or more chapters, and/or as a class project.

This committee will review and determine the final list of courses by February 20, 2013. The list will be forwarded to the Provost for the ultimate approval and subsequent listing in the new catalog. Conducting an inventory of courses provides a valuable foundation for advancing sustainability curriculum, offers a sense of where the institution is now, and can help identify strengths and opportunities for growth. In addition, the list helps current and prospective students find and understand sustainability course offerings, which can help them organize their academic studies.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey form (URL below) and submit it by January 16, 2013. The survey asks for course prefix, number, and name, primary instructor and email, semester, credit hours, and estimated annual enrollment. The final step is sharing, with can edit, the course syllabus with Sarah Craig (craig@ucmo.edu).
