Campus Buildings, Grounds, Parking Update
University buildings and grounds crews continue working to maintain pedestrian and parking areas and address any other issues that will enhance campus safety following recent snow storms.
Through today, the university will allow anyone with a valid UCM parking permit to park without regard to lot designation (Faculty/Staff or Student), with the exception of handicap, service vehicle, reserved, and visitors parking. This measure is the result of some large mounds of snow which have not yet been removed. These snow piles may also create some visibility issues, so motorists are encouraged to proceed with caution on lots where large mounds of snow remain. Campus commuters should also avoid spaces that may cause their parked vehicle to extend into driving lanes, and proceed with caution near snow removal equipment that may still be operating to clear lots. Individuals should expect to return to parking in their usual lots on Monday, March 4, and are urged to continue to allow more time for parking than usual until all snow is cleared.
Facilities, Planning, and Operations has temporarily placed barricades in some areas as a safety precaution to avoid potential falling snow or ice. In such cases, pedestrians should use alternate pathways that have been created and should not enter barricade zones.
FPO snow teams continue to respond to calls where there are slick spots on pedestrian walkways, and are assisting with unit/departmental requests. Any UCM unit/department that has a particular request related to snow removal on campus should contact FPO at 543-4331.
Please remember, snow may continue to melt and re-freeze as temperatures drop later in the day. Campus members are encouraged to take measures that can help them enhance their own safety, including choosing proper footwear that will help them guard against sliding.
