2014 Johnson County CROP Hunger Walk set for Saturday

The 10th annual Johnson County CROP Hunger Walk will begin with registration at 9 a.m. and the step-off at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at the First United Methodist Church, 141 Gay St. The three-mile walk benefits the Warrensburg Food Center and Church World Service and raises money and awareness to help feed the hungry. Since 2004, walkers have raised more than $94,000, some $23,500 of which has gone to the Food Center, said spokeswoman Kaye Fair. CROP Hunger Walks help to support Church World Service, especially in hunger-fighting development efforts. In addition, 25 percent of the funds raised in Warrensburg go to the Food Center. A limited number of T-shirts will be available for sale for $10 at registration. The event will end at the First Christian Church at 101 E. Gay with refreshments and a time of celebration. People who cannot walk in person may seek online donations or make a contribution at www.cropwalk.org. For more information, contact Fair at 660-747-2957 or 441-7672 or email at threefairs@gmail.com or visit cropwalk.org online.
