Wanted: Classes and Groups for Common Reader Program, 2013-14
Earlier this semester, it was announced that the American Democracy Project and Pleiades in collaboration with the composition faculty will sponsor a common reading program for Fall 2013. To this end, recommendations of contemporary published books that possess both critical depth and accessibility to a general audience were sought earlier this semester. The committee reviewed several texts that were proposed and is delighted to announce that The Storytelling Animal by Jonathan Gottschall (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt: 2012) was selected.
The selected book will be used in first-year composition courses next Fall. The common reading program will culminate with a visit by the book's author to our campus on November 13th.
To this end, we are seeking to identify classes that will be using the book as a required or recommended reading for Fall 2013, and groups that may be interested in co-sponsoring a related event. We would also like to identify any campus book groups that might be interested in hosting a book talk using this book. Faculty and staff who have a class or group that may be interested are encouraged to contact Dr. Shari Bax at email@example.com
