A study of race and equality in the Independent Lens' film "The New Black"
"The New Black" examines the African American community in Maryland, and how it is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights. The Independent Lens film documents activists, families, and clergy on both sides of the marriage equality issue, as the African American community comes to terms with this highly charged issue.
Independent Lens' "The New Black" airs Sunday night (June 15) on KMOS-TV channel 6.1
